Chicana/Latina/Legal Review
abstract
For this article, the author interviewed six local law enforcement agencies in Texas regarding SB4. Based on these interviews and other research, this article concludes that SB4 is unlikely to eradicate or change police practices in Texas, and that SB4 is in fact a They argue that they may not be very effective in improving the safety of residents, which is the stated objective. SB4 continues to have far-reaching effects, including concerns about racial profiling, victims and witnesses not coming forward for fear of deportation, and damage to the reputation of police officers. Additionally, some local law enforcement agencies have argued that they do not need to reallocate resources to comply with SB4’s requirements, but they are requiring additional community outreach efforts because of the fear SB4 has caused. Resources had to be expended.
